Abstract :Nonlinear phenomena cause distortions and attenuations on signals transmitted in an optical fiber. Four-wave mixing insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(FWM); of these phenomena is one of the most important reasons for nonlinear crosstalk in wavelength division multiplexing insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(WDM); systems. Amplifiers used for extending the transmission distance of WDM systems increase the FWM effect and therefore the performance of long-haul communication systems is negatively affected. In this study, parameters affecting FWM in WDM communication systems and effects of FWM on transmission performance are analyzed for G.652 step-index single mode optical fiber. In simulations performed, the level of FWM noise power for different values of channel spacing, the effect of channel power variation on first and second order FWM crosstalk, the variation of FWM power with respect to different values of transmission distance and chromatic dispersion, the relation of FWM efficiency and transmission distance and the effect of FWM noise on signal to noise ratio insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(SNR); are investigated.Keywords : FWM, WDM, optical fiber, SNR
