Abstract :In 1968, two versions of Myra Breckinridge appeared: the complete text in the United States; and, in Great Britain, a text with “certain excisions” allowed by the author.1 As the late Gore Vidal’s biographer, Fred Kaplan, noted, “In distant Australia, Myra itself became the text of a court case resulting in a ruling that allowed Australian readers to determine what books they would read” 589 . The publication in 1986 of the revised Myra Breckinridge and Myron together in one volume effected a late transformation of these novels about transformation.2 TKeywords :
