A Study on Phubbing, Differentiation of Self and Contribution in Adolescents

Abstract :The present study examined the phenomenon of \"phubbing\" in adolescents and its potential impact on the development of self-concept. The study was conducted with 436 individuals using a convenience sampling method. The results of the analyses indicated that there was a significant difference in the contribution to self and community and the total score of participants who were engaged in voluntary activities, and a significant difference in the family, community and total scores of participants who were engaged in activities with their families. The results indicated that there was a significant difference in the total scores of emotional reactivity, self-position, differentiation of self and total scores of self-abstraction, contribution to self, contribution to community and contribution, depending on whether the participants were engaged in an activity that they found enjoyable. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that there was a significant difference in emotional reactivity, family, community and contribution total scores in participants who were engaged in an activity to feel good. This study revealed a partial mediation effect of phubbing between differentiation of self and contribution. The findings of the research were discussed in the context of previous studies and suggestions were made.Keywords : Phubbing, benliğin farklılaşması, katkı, ergen bireyler
