Young gifted students’ STEM learning experiences: A bioecological systems view

Abstract :Using Bronfenbrenner’s bioecological systems theory, this concurrent mixed-methods study investigated the learning experiences of gifted students in a STEM enrichment program. Survey data were collected from students insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=530);. Participants rated the enrichment program as highly supportive of STEM learning interests with appropriate challenges. The MANOVA results indicated no significant difference existed in students’ perceptions of their courses. Analyses of parent surveys insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=196); and semi-structured teacher interviews insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(n=3); revealed that inviting learning environments, intellectual and socioemotional stimulation, responsive curricula and instruction, interest, and motivation in STEM prominently influenced students’ learning experiences.
