SUMMARY [Ghost celled odontogenic cyst or calcifying odontogenic cyst] A relatively rare cyst in the bone of the maxilla of a 39 - year - old male patient was described. Examination of the oral cavity revea`ed a smooth, somewhat fluctuant swelling that involved the left maxillary ridge and mucobuccal fold from the central incisor to the second premolar area. Roentgenographs examination showed radiolucent lesions in the left mexil`a insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Fig. 1);. These cysts were enucleated and curettaged under local anesthesia. Histologic examination of the lesion showed the typical appearence of the ghost - celled odontogenic cyst insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Fig. 2 and 3);. There were strands and islands of primitive odontogenic epithelium in the connective tissue of the cyst wall insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Fig. 4);. Calcification of the ghost cells was observed. Calcification of the ghost cells is a frequent but not constant feature, and this kind of calcification is known as dystrophic type. Dystrophic calcification can be seen in some tumors insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(f. i. Chraniopharyngoima, Oligodendroglioma, thyroid and ovarian carcinomas);, but the ghost cells are the principle structures of these cysts. Therefore, `the ghost celled odantogenic cyst` will be e better designation has over been proposed. Keywords :
