Mapping Futures Literacy: Bibliometric Analysis and Future Research Directions

Abstract :Futures literacy is becoming a critical skill that includes individuals\' abilities to understand, synthesize, and evaluate information in a rapidly changing world. This article aims to examine research trends and future research directions in the field of futures literacy. This article contains a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of futures literacy using the R program and VOSviewer tools with the Biblioshiny application of the bibliometrix package. This study identified 200 relevant studies published in the Scopus database until December 2023. As a result of the filtering, 87 relevant studies conducted between 2009 and 2023 were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the United Kingdom is the most cited country and leads the way in international cooperation efforts. “Poli R.” was determined as the most published author. Journals such as “Futures”, “European Journal of Futures Research” and “Journal of Futures Studies” stand out among the most published ones. The most frequently used keywords include “future prospect”, “literacy” and “learning”. The study results provide researchers and practitioners in the field of futures literacy with important insight into the current status, outstanding studies, and potential future developments.
