Abstract :1857 yılı Glasgow doğumlu olan E. 1. W. Gibb, daha küçük yaşlardan itibaren Türkçe'ye ve Türk edebiyatı'na olan ilgisi onu bu alanda çalışmalara yöneltmiş ve Divan şiiri'nden önemli manzumeleri İngilizceye çevirmiştir. Onun yazmış olduğu 'Osmanlı Şiiri Tarihi' isimli eseri TOrk edebiyatına olan hakimiyetini gösterir. Bu eserini yazarken Türk şairleriyle de görüşmüş ve onlardan sürekli yardım almıştır. Bu şairlerden biri de Abdülhak Hamid'tir. Gibb'in Hamid'e gönderdiği bu konu ile ilgili iki mektubu 1886 yılında Gayret'te yayınlanmıştır.Biz de bu iki mektubu bu mecmuadan aktararak ilgililerin bilgisine sunmak istedik.   SUMMARY E. J. W. Gibb was bom in Glasgow in i 857 and direeted his studies towards Turkish litcrature due to his interests about Turkish language and literature and he translated eignifieent legends from 'Divan Poetry' into English. The work named 'A History of Ottoman Poetry' written by E. 1. W. Gibb shows his domınation on Turkish literature. While he was writting this work, he interviewed with Turkish poets and took their constand eontribution. One of these poets is Abdülhak Hamid two letters sent to Abdülhak Hamid by Gibb were published in "Gayret" in 1886. We would Iike to present these two letters to the vİews of authorities by reporting from the magazines.
