Abstract :ÖZET Bu makalede i 772-1897 yılları arasında Tokat'ta ihtida hareketleri, dönemin şer' iyye sicilierine. göre ele alınmıştır. Bu siciııerde tespit edilen toplam 68 adet ihtidıi'kaydı, sicillerdeki yer alış şekilleri, yıııara ve aylara göre dagılımları, mlihtedilerin milliyetleri ve ikamet yerleri, eski dinlerine göre mOhtediler, mOhtedilerin aldıkları isimler, ihdida sebepleri ve mOhtedilere yapılan yardımlar şeklinde yedi alt başlık altında analitik olarak incelenmiştir. Siciııerde çogunlukla "ihtida i'laml" şeklinde yer alan ihtida kayıtlarından ihtidaların daha çok 1798-1847 yıııarı arasında RebiOlevvel ve Şevval aylarında meydana geldigi' görOlmliştür. Milliyet bakımından mühtedilerin Ermeni, Rum ve Yahudi kökenli oldukları ve Tokat'ta toplam 24 adet mahaııede ikamet ettikleri anlaşılmıştır. Çogunlugu hıristiyanlıktan ihtida eden mühtedilerin hemen İslıimi isimler aldıkları ve daha çok Mehmed ve Fatıma isimlerini kuııandıkları tespit edilmiştir. Genellikle psikolojik ve sosyo-kültürel faktörler sonucu İsliimı seçen mühtedilere gerek devlet gerekse şahıslar ve vakıflar tarafından çeşitli yardımlar yapılmaktaydı. AB8TRACT In this article, the eonversion events in Tokat between the years of 1772-i 897 have been taken up based on the eourt registers of that period. The total 68 eonversion records in these court registers have been examined analytieally under such sub-titles as cliche forms of eonversion records, distribution of eonverts by year and month, eonvem in terms of their previous religions, names used by eonverts, reasons for conversion, and aids provided for eonverts. it has been seen that the most of the eonversion records registered in eourt registers usually in the form of "judieial decision for eonversion" took plaee during the period of 17981847 and in the months of RebiUlevvel and Şevval. lt has been understood that the eonverts were Armenian, Greek and Jewish in terms of their nationalities and that they Iived in the total 24 quarters of Tokat. it has been found that the eonverts who beeame Muslim leaving mostly Christianity immediately adopted Islamic names and usually used such names as Mehmed and Fatıma. Both State, and persons and pious Islamje foundations provided various kind of aids for the eonverts embracing Islam with the effeets of psyehologieal and soeial-eultural faetors.
