Abstract :This study was conducted to determine the suitable sowing date and intrarow spacing for safflower insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Carthamus tinctorius L.); under Harran Plain`s arid conditions during the 1998-1999 and 1999-2000 winter growing seasons. Four sowing dates insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(mid-October, early November, mid-November and early December); and 5 intrarow spacings insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm and 25 cm); were applied. Dinçer-118 was used as the safflower cultivar. Seed yield insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(1191.7-667.5 kg ha-1);, oil content insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(35.48-25.66%);, oil yield insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(389.4-175.9 kg ha-1);, shell rate insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(50.37-39.33%); and 1000-seed weight insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(36.71-29.22 g); were investigated and all parameters measured were significantly affected by the treatments. The results obtained showed that the most suitable sowing date and intrarow spacing for safflower on Harran Plain were November and 5 cm, respectively. Keywords : Safflower Carthamus tinctorius L, , Sowing date, Intrarow spacing
