Comparison of the volatiles of Daphne pontica L. and D. oleoides Schreber subsp. oleoides isolated by hydro- and microdistillation methods

Abstract :Aerial parts of Daphne pontica were collected from Ilgaz-Çankırı, and D. oleoides subsp. oleoides was collected from 2 different localities insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Ayrancı-Karaman and Ilgaz-Çankırı); in Turkey. The samples were subjected to hydrodistillation and microdistillation. The resulting volatile samples were analyzed both by gas chromatography insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(GC); and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(GC-MS);, respectively. The main components for D. pontica were identified as hexahydrofarnesyl acetone insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(8.6%);, carvacrol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(8.5%);, dihydroedulane II insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(4.7%);, insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(E);-geranyl acetone insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(4.6%);, and thymol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(4.5%);, while nonacosane insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(42.5% and 27.2%);, hexadecanoic acid insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(24.4% and 20.0%);, phytol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(12.3%);, and carvacrol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5.0%); were identified as the main components of D. oleoides subsp. oleoides obtained by hydrodistillation. Carvacrol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(12.0%);, thymol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(7.7%);, dihydroactinidiolide insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(7.2%);, bicyclosesquiphellandrene insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5.5%);, and insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Z);-3-hexenal insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(4.1%); were the major components in D. pontica, while carvacrol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(27.2% and 25.4%);, nonacosane insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(24.6%);, insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(Z);-3-hexenal insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(18.5% and 2.5%);, decane insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(7.4%);, hexahydrofarnesyl acetone insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(7.4% and 2.2%);, hexanal insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(6.6% and 1.5%);, heptacosane insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(6.1%);, nonanal insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5.6% and 1.9%);, thymol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5.1% and 2.3%);, and phytol insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(5.0%); were identified in the D. oleoides subsp. oleoides isolated by microdistillation, respectively. In addition, the volatile components were evaluated for their ability to scavenge 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(DPPH); radicals using a bioautographic thin layer chromatography insert ignore into journalissuearticles values(TLC); method, and the samples showed activity comparable with that of the tested standards, vitamins C and E.Keywords : Key words Daphne sp, essential oil, volatiles, hydrodistillation, microdistillation, gas chromatography, gas chromatography mass spectrometry, antioxidant activity
