Abstract :This article presents literature data from the PubMed database. The definition of the term «whole blood viscosity» is defined, methods of its determination including in outpatient practice are explained. The results of studies that examined the relationship between the whole blood viscosity and type 2 diabetes mellitus are analyzed. Data on the relationship between the whole blood viscosity and the metabolic syndrome and its components are given. The clinical significance of this indicator in clinical practice at the level of primary medical care is indicated.
