Abstract :A fossil member of Hominidae from the Serengeti district of the Tan.ganyika territory, discovered by Kohl-Larsen in 1939, had been in 1948 referred to as Praeanthropus by Hennig, but was sub-sequently labelled Meganthropus africanus by Weinert of Kiel Uni-versity. Weinert, in this study, in which he contrasted the remains from East Africa only briefly with the corresponding parts of recent man and the lower jaw of Meganthropus, attributed the African form to the same genus with Meganthropus palaeojavanicus von Koe-nigswald, first described by the late Weidenreich, from the Djetis beds of Java
