Abstract :T\`Societe d\`Historie Turque this year has started investigations in an area which has never been studied from the archaeological point of view. In my proposal to the Society, I indicated the importance of the plains of Elbistan and Afşin from the stand points of the historical geography and history of human settlement, and pointed out that one should study the archaeology and prehistory of this area which was a great cultural center in ancient and medieval times and excels in many surface monuments and höyüks.
