Abstract :The first industrial revolution in Europe took place in England. Having completed the industrial revolution in the early 1820s, England became unrivaled in Europe. With this development, important developments have occurred in economic functioning around the world. British political or economic relations with the Ottoman Empire date back to the sixteenth century. With the appointment of the English ambassador in 1593, these relations were furthered in a more systematic manner. Commercially, in the seventeenth century, the port of Izmir was an important base for the westward shipment of goods produced in Damascus-Halab and Anatolia. As the Ottoman Empire increased its influence in the Mediterranean as a commercial transit route, the French in the 16th century, and later the English and the Dutch, competed for concessions from the Ottoman Empire in order to take part in this basin of political and commercial civilisation.
