Abstract :Writing a research paper in English as a foreign language for the first time is a challenging task for many international doctoral students. This study explores the challenges experienced and strategies utilized during the academic socialization process through research paper writing and within the framework of sociocultural theory. The results indicate that limited experience in research paper writing and personal writing style with cultural influence are the most challenging aspects. The utilized strategies suggest that dialog within the academic community is crucial for the success of graduate students.
