Abstract :Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) is a life-threatening arthropod-borne virus transmitted by tick bites or contact with blood or tissues of viraemic individuals and animals. CCHFV continues its existence in a broad region with sporadic cases or outbreaks. CCHFV infection is observed frequently as an asymptomatic, but sudden severe disease characterised by haemorrhagic can occur. Diagnostic methods employ enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). Although ribavirin has been recommended in treatment besides supportive therapy approaches, no antiviral or vaccine for CCHF is currently approved. This review demonstrates general knowledge of CCHFV, summarising its molecular biology, pathogenesis, diagnosis, epidemiology, sustaining and transmission, treatment and prevention strategies, including vaccine candidates.
