Abstract :The article analyses the state of development of agriculture in the economic regions of Karabakh and East Zangezur and the level of self-sufficiency of the region in terms of food products in the pre-occupation period. It was also pointed out that the attempts to join the Armenian SSR under the pretext of lagging behind the economic development of the region and insufficient food security did not have a serious and legal basis. In addition, the efforts and difficulties encountered in the post-war period to reintegrate the economic regions into the economic life of the country were also emphasised. At the same time, the contribution of these economic regions to the further strengthening of food security in the region and the country as a whole as a result of their reintegration into the economic life of the country after the war was investigated. . The main objective of this study is to examine the contributions that the economic zones examined can make at national and regional level in the near future for both Azerbaijan and the neighbouring countries bordering these regions. The study is methodologically structured on the comparative method. In this context, in addition to the literature published in the Soviet period, current articles and internet sources were also used.
